This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 is a professionally restored American muscle car that has undergone a comprehensive body-off restoration while preserving its factory-correct appearance and matching-numbers drivetrain. Finished in its original Fathom Blue exterior with an Ivory interior, this Chevelle combines authentic SS styling with a high-performance rebuilt 454 Big Block V8 and numerous mechanical upgrades.
The body was removed from the frame and stripped to bare metal during the restoration. Any rusted or previously repaired panels were replaced, including new rear quarter panels, one-piece floor pan, rocker panels, trunk lid, passenger door, and restored inner and outer fenders. The hood was chemically stripped and refinished before the car received a professional repaint in its original Fathom Blue with white SS stripes. Chrome bumpers were refinished, while new body hardware and bushings were installed throughout. The vehicle rides on 17-inch Rally-style wheels fitted with BFGoodrich performance tires.
The interior was restored to factory specifications with Ivory upholstery, new carpeting, premium door panels, restored center console, new dashboard, new dash pad, and a fully rebuilt instrument cluster featuring a tachometer and quartz clock. Additional upgrades include three-point front seat belts, an updated audio system, and new front speakers.
Under the hood is the rebuilt matching-numbers 454 cubic-inch Chevrolet Big Block V8. The engine has been upgraded with forged pistons, a 10.5:1 compression ratio, performance camshaft, aluminum roller rocker arms, aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum performance intake manifold, and a 700 CFM performance carburetor. Additional upgrades include long-tube headers, a custom dual exhaust system, and a professionally rebuilt rotating assembly. The engine is estimated to produce approximately 485 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.
Power is transferred through the legendary Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” close-ratio four-speed manual transmission equipped with a Hurst shifter, heavy-duty clutch, balanced flywheel, and refurbished transmission components. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a factory GM 12-bolt Posi-Traction differential with a 3.08:1 gear ratio.
The suspension has been completely rebuilt with new springs, performance shock absorbers, heavy-duty boxed control arms, and an upgraded steering stabilizer. The braking system has been fully rebuilt, while the fuel system features a refurbished fuel tank and new stainless-steel fuel lines. Power steering and power-assisted brakes provide excellent drivability without compromising the car’s classic muscle car character.
