This 1961 Chevrolet Impala Bubble Top Coupe is a professionally built frame-off restomod that combines the unmistakable styling of Chevrolet’s iconic pillarless coupe with modern performance, reliability, and comfort. Completed in 2013, this high-quality restoration features extensive mechanical, suspension, braking, and interior upgrades while preserving the timeless character of the original Impala.
The body was completely removed from the chassis during the restoration and professionally refinished in a custom Metallic Olive Green finish. The underbody received the same level of attention, while all chrome bumpers were replaced and the stainless trim professionally refinished. The vehicle is equipped with SS-style badging and exterior trim, giving it a sportier appearance. Completing the aggressive stance are 17-inch Centerline billet wheels.
The custom interior is finished in premium cream leather and combines classic styling with modern convenience. It features front bucket seats separated by an SS center console, custom upholstered door panels and rear side panels, a custom headliner, Dynamat sound insulation, new carpeting, power windows with new glass, aftermarket air conditioning, and a Bluetooth stereo system. The factory dashboard has been retained and upgraded with Autometer gauges, while the trunk has been restored in the original factory-style speckle finish with the correct trunk mat.
Under the hood is a professionally detailed engine compartment housing a powerful 427 cubic-inch Chevrolet V8 engine. The engine is equipped with aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, MSD Digital 6AL ignition system, MSD distributor, Concept One billet serpentine drive system, polished alternator, polished power steering pump, polished air conditioning compressor, polished Meziere electric water pump, polished aluminum radiator, twin electric cooling fans, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust system with 2.5-inch tubing.
Power is transferred through a Turbo 700R four-speed automatic transmission to a rebuilt rear differential. The powder-coated chassis features significant suspension upgrades, including Strong Arm tubular front control arms with adjustable coil-over shocks and a Strong Arm four-link rear suspension with adjustable shocks and lowered springs. Braking performance has been modernized with four-wheel disc brakes and a Wilwood dual master cylinder. The entire electrical system has been replaced with a complete American Autowire wiring harness for improved reliability.
